Map it, map me.

I love maps. All sorts of maps. The thing I like about them is they are information at a glance. I like to look at something and get loads from it. I am an apt map reader. There are road maps, the typical geographical world maps, weather maps and then there's THIS map I found while wandering through the World Wide Web.

It's interesting because it maps on how Happy or Unhappy countries are in a generalized way. It also raises something we never think about. Mainly because most of us are too busy to ponder about our ecological footprint. We have to realize that some of the things we are doing have to have some sort of impact on the world. We always think that since we are just one person therefore so minute that our actions couldn't hurt anything. But in essence, 5 million people could be doing that exact action hence creating a 'substantial' action to our ecosystem. The world population is about 6.5 billion people. That's a lot of people. A lot of lights. Damn.

You can take a 'test' to see how you rate with your countries averages. Take the test, it's interesting. Now, I know--it's just another on-line survey. Well, no it's not. It doesn't ask your email addy, your name, or any personal demographic information about you personally. No signing your life away for this mapformation on you.

Well, the weather is hot, so stay cool. I got my air conditioner set at 70. Maps Rock!

IE sucks. Is it my fault?

I expected this, of course, but it's still a bit disheartening. I spend a lot of time working up a change to my site design, get the basics up and running, just have a bit of tweaking to do…and then I take a few moments and take a look at it under Internet Explorer version 6 for Windows.

And cringe.

And you know what? I don't care. I'm not even going to bother fixing the various oddities that crop up under IE. It's not worth the time, trouble, and headaches that it would entail.

It comes down to this, quite simply: Internet Explorer sucks. It's buggy, shares responsibility for many of the security issues in Windows, offers far to many ways for people to compromise your system, and doesn't support modern web standards. Sure, I know that IE probably makes up over 90% of the web browser market, and I know that because of that, it's quite likely that somewhere over 90% of the people who stumble across my site won't be seeing it the way that they should.

I don't care.

Thanks in part to the fact that I do pay attention to modern web design techniques and standards, people using IE are quite able to read my site. All the information is there, it's just not presented how it should be. But that's not my fault — it's IE's fault — and that's not worth me worrying about.

If you were looking at this in any browser but Microsoft Internet Explorer, it would look and run better and faster.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer may currently have the largest market share, but it has been stagnating for a while. Meanwhile, other web browsers have been innovating and are becoming more and more popular. Today, these browsers run faster and look better than Internet Explorer.

By using a better browser your experience will be better. Plus, you will help to foster a competitive environment in which browser technology can continue to innovate and make everyone's web experience more pleasant and exciting.

So that's that.

Get Firefox. Get Opera. Get Konqueror. OR get a Mac and use Safari.

Just get away from IE.

MindtheGap, partie-deux

MindtheGap is making it's grand entrance through the service door. MindtheGap isn't high brow art. It's my third grade drawing skills accompanied with day to day sarcasm that I see or feel in everyday life. Reading the material may cause you to reflect on your life. It may make you wonder what kind of person you really are. It may make you enraged, maddened, furious, a raging lunatic, sad, grief stricken, happy, overzealous or perhaps all of the above all-at-once. If that does happen, please go to your local Urgent Care for immediate attention.

If you want to know how I got the idea of MindtheGap art, it was strangely from my daughter. A few months ago I bought her a DoodlePro and I draw her lovely pictures on them of strange beings. I tell her the male ones are Daddy, and the female ones are Mommy, etc., all the way down to the cat. I started doing quirky sayings with the characters and voila! MindtheGap was born. DoodlePro's have no limits. LOL.

Anyhoo, enough said about something completely overrated.

I don't think about the subject and doodle for hours on end (that will be obvious). It's just spur of the moment things I may encounter in the grocery store, at the mall or on the street. Who knows, maybe YOU will inspire me to grab the post-it pad and scribble one out and scan it in. The one being shown as my 'pilot' sketch is actually the first one I've ever done. Hopefully for anyones sake that reads them, they will get better.

This one was inspired to me by the media. Enjoy.

Word Out

Me: Don't you just love Sofie's new satin PJs?
Pants: Oh yeah, I just love'em.
Me: Are you being saficious?
Pants: blank stare
Me: What, why are you looking at me like that! Haven't you heard that word before?
Pants: No, I don't think I have.
Me: Well, it IS a word. 'Sa-fe-cious'. Means, being sarcastic, or having a snappy attitude.
Pants: blank stare
Me: Well I know it's a word. I've heard it used lots of times.
Pants: Really.
Me: Yea, on Judge Judy.
